4, of cancer at her home. Tall and statuesque, Mrs. Sterling stood out as a hostess, athlete, organizer, caregiver, and friend, her family said. She grew up in Springfield, Delaware County, the daughter of Maureen and Paul Arizin. Her father played basketball for Wlanova University from 1947 to 1950 before being drafted by the Philadelphia Warriors in 1950.

He went on to become one of the great basketball players of the 1950s, leading the NBA in scoring during the 1952 and 1957 seasons. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1978. A natural athlete like her father, Mrs. Sterling excelled in basketball and tennis at Cardinal O'Hara High School. She graduated in 1973.

She attended the University of Delaware before transferring to Lan-kenau Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1975 and immediately began her career as a registered nurse in the emergency room. She stayed until starting a family. Ruth was born and raised in Philadelphia, where she received a bachelors and Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Post-graduation Ruth taught English at Upper Darby High. After a few years of teaching, Ruth's father Gottlieb Dietz, asked her to join him and help run his company, Dietz Watson. She would spend the rest of her life as a leader of the company, eventually becoming the face of the company's ad campaign as 'Momma Dietz'.

While she made her profession at Dietz Watson, she made her home in Medford, NJ. She lived in Medford Pines with her husband of 45 years, Louis, who died in 1996, and her three children Louis, Chris, and Cindy. Many like to think of Ruth as the original working mom, as she was one before such a phrase even existed. Her work ethic inspired many, as she could be seen in her office at least four days a week well into her 90s. Ruth was also an exceptional mother and grandmother.

She was a constant in her grandchildren's lives, always present for birthdays, sports games, ballet performances, and even wedding dress shopping. Ruth had a love of music and theater and frequented performances of the Philadelphia Orchestra. She also adored dogs and cats, of which she had many during her life. Wife of the late Louis J. Eni she is survived by three children and their spouses, and her eight grandchildren.

VALLORANI VIOLET MARIANI Was born on April 28, 1923, on 717 Johnson Philadelphia, PA. By the age of five, she moved to 2414 Chestnut Ardmore, PA, where she later attended Chestnutwold Grammar School. She then attended Haverford Junior High School and Haverford High School. She graduated from Haverford High School in 1940. After graduation, Mrs.

Vallorani attended courses to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She also worked at La Touraine Coffee Company, John B. Stetson, and Strawbridge Clothier. Mrs. Vallorani met Achille A.

Vallorani while attending high school. He later became her husband in 1944. Five years later, she became the mother of Dr. Ronald D. Vallorani (deceased).

The Vallorani's established a home in Penfield, PA beginning in 1957 and resided there until the present. When Ronald D. Vallorani attended St. Joseph's College, Mrs. Vallorani served as secretary of the Bellarmine Society.

Violet also became the secretary of Haverford High School Hall of Fame. One of her favorite hobbies was gardening and dressing her flower beds surrounding her home. In 1980, the family purchased a home in Cape May, NJ, where she spent many of her summer days and weekends. Driving automobiles was one of Violet's treasured skills. Along with her family, she travelled to the Midwest, southeastern states, and Canada.

She was a daily attendant to her mother who passed away at the age of 99. Subsequently, she became an avid reader reading two to three books per week. Her son, Dr. Ronald Vallorani, passed away in October 2017 at the age of 67. She is survived by her husband, Achille A.

Vallorani; daughter-in-law Cynthia Vallorani, and cousins Gabe Augustine, Jean Vucolo, Jean Mariana, Gloria Devitas, and Egidio Mestichelli. She shared the love of art with Charles Sterling, a respected Philadelphia antiques dealer, whom she married in 2003.

He died in 2008 at age 61. A busy volunteer, Mrs. Sterling put her nursing experience to work at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she pushed to improve patient care as a member and president of the Board of Women Visitors. Even illness couldn't keep her from caring for others, her family said. Last year, while being treated for cancer, she began a program to teach Scrabble to fifth and sixth graders at Drexel Neumann Academy, a charter school in Chester.

She enjoyed reading, world travel, and spending time with family and friends. "She was the constant force behind events organizing birthdays, dinners, weekends at the Jersey Shore, and endless family get-togethers," her brother Tim Arizin said. Besides her brothers, she is survived by sons Paul D. Somers III and Max A. Somers; stepchildren Elizabeth Sterling and Charles "Beau" Sterling; brothers Michael and Christopher; and 12 nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 9.
