violence shocked the wildcat family. Early sunday morning, *** shot out of the dark. People were scared. There was blood on the porch. This is Kentucky. Things like that don't happen here. They didn't know if someone specifically was targeted. They didn't know if this was random. Well, it's devastating. It's *** nightmare. Lexington Police are also searching for answers. But so far they say they have no motive, no suspects and no weapon. Lexington is *** beautiful, beautiful southern city, very friendly, very safe. *** great place to live and raise *** family. It's smack dab in the middle of Kentucky and it's sort of representative of all parts of the state. There's *** blend of people from the country that's moved and there's some city folks and it's *** college town to university Kentucky is here. So that has *** lot to do with its culture. It is known for three things. It's known for horses. It's known for Bourbon and UK Sports last night Kentucky basketball's offense was outstanding. U. K. Is really *** basketball school, especially in the nineties. The football program was not as good picture day was filled with optimism yesterday in spite of just 11 wins and three years under head coach Bill curry. But people have always loved UK football. They've always followed U. K. Football, but it didn't have the robust tradition of the basketball program. 20 0 was *** football player from Oldham County. He came to be *** walk on at the university of Kentucky freshman year. He don't think played much sophom*ore year. He started to travel with the team and get some reps on the field. By the time his junior year rolled around, he was *** real contributor and his senior year, he was really, really expected to be *** big contributor, cracking the starting lineup. He was *** hard worker. He cared about two things mostly football and family maybe in that order, but he really put in the time and put in the reps. Greek. Life is very important in most Southern university, especially in the Southeastern Conference. As *** male greek. Life is really your key or your gateway to social life. Unless of course you're an athlete or somebody famous Trent decided not to pledge *** fraternity. He wanted to be friends with everybody and as *** gregarious, outgoing, fun friendly athlete. He was very friendly amongst all fraternities, but specifically S. ***. E. As well. I got *** call from dispatch to tell me that there had been *** shooting on campus, which little unusual. We don't have that *** whole lot. So I headed to the scene when I got there, the victim had been transported to the hospital. I noticed there was *** lot of commotion around the front porch of the house, *** chair was overturned. Uh there was *** keg. It looked like maybe there had been *** party. It was pretty chaotic in the sense of *** lot of the college kids. We're in the front yard and we're very distraught Trent de jero lived in this house with several UK teammates. He was apparently sitting on the porch with friends early this morning when someone approached the group and shot in the head. I got *** phone call from the Oldham County Police Department and they said, Mr, you got some bad news. Your son has been killed. News of *** UK student athlete being shot and killed in cold blood was statewide news. Everybody was focused on that. They didn't know if someone specifically was targeted. They didn't know if this was random. Coach Bill curry and several of his players gathered at the site where hours earlier teammate Trent de Jero was shot and killed. It's devastating. It's *** nightmare. The only way to describe the horror is if anyone of us here lost *** member of our family.
